The bike was popular with everyone from casual riders to professional racers, and in the eight years it was produced, Honda sold a lot of these popular dirt bikes. In 2004, the company discontinued production.

Its a good bike. Its not the fastest bike in the world, but it's extremely dependable. It is that dependable that XR 400 parts are not purchased as often as some of the more delicate bikes but they were very popular and accessories are always sought after.
